Investigation

Roughly two hours north of the closest major city of Pittsburgh, PA, the little known but extremely important small town of Waterford, PA is a hidden gem of historical significance. At one time, this small town was larger than its neighboring town of Erie, PA and played a pivotal role by hosting forts and troops all throughout America’s youth including the French and Indian Wars, Revolutionary War, and even the Civil War as well as hosting important figures during America’s growing period including the likes of founding father George Washington. Above and beyond these militaristic means, this land was once Native American burial and ceremonial grounds, discovered and confirmed as the town was settled and the construction crews were forced to disperse burial mounds and all of their former inhabitants. This town deserves much more admiration and popularity than it currently encounters but within the town’s limits, there are equally as important and somewhat lesser known locations which also deserve these proper accolades. The historical district is an area within its own rite but above and beyond are three significant areas of high value and deserve much more acknowledgement including the Waterford Covered Bridge, the Eagle (which we will be visiting on a later date), and the Judson House.

Sitting directly on top of remnants and foundation of not just one but two former military forts; the first by the French and the second constructed and occupied by the British. The Judson House was a beautiful, picturesque mansion showcasing not only Amos Judson’s wealth but also his love for the land and area of Waterford. The mansion was built from local materials and employed local craftsmen to physically construct his home. Amos happily lived here and ran his businesses out of the luxury of this building and he did so up until his death in the mid 1870’s.

As time moved on from the house and area, the building began to fall into disarray and near disrepair. Luckily by 1945 the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, led in no small part by the Fort LeBoeuf Chapter of the Daughters of American Colonists, purchased the property and began to accumulate artifacts from the area and display them in a makeshift museum. In the mid-1980’s, the property again changed hands with the introduction of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission as new owners but the management and maintenance was largely made up by volunteers who rarely participated in any major renovations. However, during their tenure, the group managed to get the mansion listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. While restoration efforts were laxed, the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society purchased the property for minimal cost in 2015 in an effort to restore the building to its once former glory. To this point, the group has done an amazing job with upkeep and maintenance to keep the building and artifacts stored inside in immaculate shape in order to truly preserve its history for all to share.

Even though the Judson House is now in good hands, there is no shortage of tragedy and misery associated with the property. During the initial groundbreaking for the small town, hundreds of bodies were dug up and placed in large burial pits and mass graves notating these bodies to be Native Americans. As the excavations continued, more and more mounds were uncovered, all of which were discovered to be an addition to the natives’ burial grounds. Eventually, with the initial dirt roads being laid, some locals (and even local newspapers) reported that there were bones strewn all throughout the road as well as some personal artifacts.

As the French migrated south from Canada, they constructed a foundation, still seen to this day, and built a wooden fort above to keep out natives and incoming British forces. As seasons changed, soldiers and families housed in the fort were struck with diseases and ultimately suffered slow and painful deaths. With all the losses, they simply could not sustain themselves but before they retreated, they burnt the fort to the ground so no one else could easily occupy it.

Following the evacuation here, the British occupied this area and rebuilt their own fort naming it Fort LeBoeuf after the nearby lake. Once again, the changing and cold weather took its toll leading the British to lose an untold amount of lives to things like dysentery and smallpox. As natives attempted to force them out of the area, the British ultimately gave in and retreated, this time with the natives burning the fort to the ground.

Paired up with these events, the town itself holds some tragic tales which all tend to have a link to the Judson House or at least the property.

The Torture Tree, well known to locals, is a spot nearby where natives brutally massacred settlers in hopes of running them out of the area. These tortures stretched from scalping to slicing open victims intestines and tying them to this tree with them all the way to bashing babies against this tree as their mother watched on in petrified terror. The most well known family was that of local Thomas Boyd whose entire family was devastated at this tree, brutally and with no remorse. His relatives eventually settled nearby in the growing town of Waterford.

Grave robbers ran rampant as flooding would occur as well as graves were not dug nearly deep enough. While some maintenance teams attempted to dig up and reintered bodies, others would simply dig up bodies, claim their valuables, and leave these bodies out to the elements. This left the town with countless abandoned cemeteries and an even bigger problem of decaying and rotting bodies strewn about. The town re-buried as many as they could but there are numerous accounts of bodies remaining unclaimed and simply buried in mass graves to keep the animals and disease away.

Along the lines of brutality, a man named Reese Moore was reported to have raped and left a woman, for dead. Moore was able to place blame on a mentally challenged individual leading him to the majority of his life to be unjustly lived out in a jail cell. Eventually, Moore admitted to this essentially on his deathbed (if you could call it that) as he shot himself with a pistol just down the street from the Judson House. According to Moorre, this was mainly blamed on a woman he supposedly loved declining his proposal time and time again.

With all of these happenings, both documented and stories passed down through generations, there is just a whirlwind of remnant energy left over in this town and the Judson House sits on a perfect spot to reenact and resurrect many of these untold stories from the other side.

While unconfirmed and simply rumored, during the Judson family’s occupation, the family and close friends were said to hear odd creaks and see unsettling shadows down hallways and in rooms which were unoccupied. With a fear of being considered insane or associated with the occult the family stayed silent about these occurrences until long after Amos’ death.

As the restoration commenced with volunteers leading the charge and the museum opened to the public an odd recurrence continued to surface. Visitors commented to the staff, and even their friends by word of mouth, that the museum had truly gone above and beyond with live reenactors and time period appropriate dress. They even tried to convince them to advertise these events more to bring in more revenue. The first time this occurred it left the volunteers’ jaws dropped with a simple and bone chilling response of “We didn’t have anyone scheduled.” This very strange occurrence happened a few more times enough so that the volunteers eventually just shrugged these comments off although they held up their duties and searched the building and property for any unwanted or unsuspecting guests to no avail. It’s been rumored that this is some type of residual activity dating back to the forts and the many lives lost while living peacefully (for the most part) on site.

Since that point, the employees here have noted unexplained occurrences like whispers and voices to cold spots to laughter all about the building but particularly on the second floor and basement areas. To top that, a local news crew was doing a report on the mansion featuring a minister from the St. Peter’s Church but every time the minister spoke or stood near the original piano, the lights throughout the building would repeatedly dim then brighten. After they discussed this scenario with the historical society, it was disclosed that Amos also owned that church as well as that piano which belonged there!

After some of these instances, the mansion opened its doors to paranormal investigative teams in hopes of capturing some of this activity and perhaps even helping to tell the stories of those who still reside within these walls. These teams have picked up some unexplainable activity but most notable were two specific instances which have seemed to help identify at least one spirit which sticks around here. The first was a full conversation occurring in the Dining Room beginning with a clear and concise “Yes” of an intelligent response which ultimately led to a twenty minute long conversation which helped them narrow down the identity of this energy as a young girl. Another moment which has been recorded was a full body cold spot captured through both a thermal camera and an SLS camera mapping this figure as if it was sitting in a seemingly (or not so much) empty chair. Even though no names have been clearly recorded it’s believed that plenty of residual activity relating back to both forts and perhaps even Amos Judson also return here on a quite regular basis.

Following the museum closing we met at the Judson House around 7:30 PM with just enough light to run our drone and capture some exterior photographs. We were lucky enough to have Heidi give us a tour, mainly historical, but also helped us pinpoint some of the more active locations throughout the mansion. We held off with the exact details until after our investigation so as to not taint our experiences or evidence. With her hospitality we completed our walk through and began to set out some of our motion activated tools. Following our investigation Heidi gave us more history and details of not only the Judson House but also the entire town of Waterford. On top of the history, she had also put together a slideshow worthy of sharing with the world and more than likely is shown to all guests of the mansion.

Our motion sensored devices were focused on by our motion activated trail cameras which were paired up with other devices like the simple motion activated lights, light up cat balls, flashlights, K2 meters, Rempods, and the Spirit Light. We managed to utilize the majority of our equipment spanning from two separate recorders, one Flir thermal imaging camera, one Phasma Box, one SB7 Spirit Box, two K2 meters, one handheld camera, one SLS camera, six trail cameras, and one Ovilus. Following our walkthrough and set up, our investigation began roughly around 8:30 PM and lasted until nearly 3:00 AM.

During our evening spent inside the mansion, we experienced and recorded an unbelievable amount of paranormal activity and what’s most intriguing about these unexplained phenomena is that it wasn’t just through using our tools that we captured some of the more interesting details but rather through simple recordings and electronic voice phenomena (EVP).

We were drawn to the Lincoln Room during our walkthrough so we naturally started here. Even though we didn’t get a lot at first, things definitely picked up as we were in sheer amazement as we noticed a doll moved across the bed in the Doll Room. The Basement was another location that provided us with some verbal communication and classifications but ultimately led us to more questions than answers, though the evidence captured here was in the form of significant EVP’s and Spirit Box interactions.

Throughout the night we experienced some of those phantom noises that have been reported here occasionally like bangs and knocks some of which seemed to be intelligent and respond to our questions. We managed to capture some light anomalies through our trail cameras most of which could not be debunked or easily explained. We also gathered answers thanks to our pendulum which swayed strongly on its own in very particular movements guiding us to yes/no answers to our questions.

Our evidence in the Judson House was a combination of recorded and captured evidence but also some more personal experiences not necessarily quantifiable data but rather experiences we each personally recounted through the night. Because of these moments we have been able to state the claim that there is an extreme amount of energy left over here and that has manifested itself within the walls as paranormal anomalies. Most of these spirits are seemingly tied to this land and, ultimately due to its location on the property, the historic mansion as well. We believe that there are quite a few intelligent energies here that are trying to tell their stories and even simply their names. There seem to be others here that may simply be residual with the sounds of bangs and knocks, some light anomalies which were attributed to these attachments, and even conversations which we seemed to overhear unexpectedly. The vast majority of these paranormal encounters tended to be linked more so to the entire property rather than one particular area but there were definitely strong patches of energy that seemed to be tied to the upper floor and the basement. We believe that this simply helped bring out the communication in these areas instead of being trapped or linked to these areas.

Following an in depth review of our recorded evidence and a little bit of a deeper dive into the building and land we managed to come to the conclusion that the Judson House is a host to multiple intelligent spirits and residual energies. Our combined evidence, including recordings, photographs, and videos, each hold specific substantiations which we believe place further credence to support the claims of these otherworldly and unexplained phenomena. Our entire night of paranormal investigation has been documented and listed here not only the evidence but also moments where we debunked some of these odd happenings. Each moment has been further elaborated and explained following the clips, images, or videos so the viewer has the opportunity to review the evidence for themselves without being swayed one way or another and so that pareidolia does not take any precedence. As some of these conversations were in the forms of lights turning on and off, pendulums moving sporadically, or just us experiencing strange happenings personally, some moments simply act as transcripts rather than proof or captured evidence.

As we have learned from past investigations and the paranormal community as a whole, it takes many eyes and ears to help confirm or debunk evidence as such we are always intrigued to see what uninfluenced outsiders take away from these evidence captures. Following listening through the evidence clips and browsing the physical captures, we’d love to see how YOU interpret these moments and what you feel about each. Please comment or email us at ironcityparanormal@gmail.com with anything you may have come across or even personal stories about the mansion or town of Waterford.

As always, you have been warned, some of this is not for the faint of heart and can be slightly explicit:

Pre Investigation / Walkthrough

Before unpacking our equipment and mentally preparing for our investigation we enjoyed a historical walkthrough of the mansion. During this time we took in the history and enjoyed the ambiance of some of the original pieces to the building and relics salvaged and placed on display in the museum. Thanks to Heidi and her seemingly endless wealth of knowledge we learned that the staircase, seen right at the entrance, is original to the Judson House and still heavily utilized to this day by all visitors. The desk situated below the painting of Amos Judson is also original to the mansion and was even used by Amos himself. In this same room, the piano on display is also an original piece but salvaged from the St. Peter’s Church which was in fact owned by Amos. So it’s only appropriate that it was returned to his mansion. Most of the relics and antiques on the second floor are either replications or were donated from other locations with a direct reflection on this time period but the one item that gave a good perspective on this location was located up on the second floor and was transported here in pieces from its former museum location. The diorama showed a replica of what the former forts would have looked like when they were in operation thanks to written documentation and archaeological findings. Even more intriguing was the image placed atop this glass enclosure was the image of the placement and current location of the Judson House in direct relationship to the former forts.

We did run a recorder during this time but did not experience anything abnormal. However, we each felt a different pull toward the Lincoln Room and as if someone was standing in a corner simply watching us. The Basement was only walked through by one of us during this time period as the remaining two of us gathered drone footage of both the exterior and interior of the mansion. At that point, the Basement did give off a darker almost malevolent feel to it so we were sure to mark it for a camera placement and some time set aside to return here during the night.

Photos:

  • During the walkthrough, we did not capture anything out of the ordinary.

Video:

  • Our drone footage was able to capture the size of the building and property as well as give a decent walkthrough of the premises. Nothing abnormal was recorded during these moments though.

Lincoln Room

This beautifully decorated bedroom consists of an old four post bed, a few wooden dressers, a rocking chair, and a large portrait of Abraham Lincoln giving this room its namesake. The room was utilized as the Master Bedroom and was sectioned off until a smaller room in time for unknown reasons. Originally it most likely would have housed a partial library  and sitting area for Amos around the corner where some of the archives and restroom is now located. This room is one of the areas where footsteps and whispers have been heard even though no one is nearby. It’s believed that Amos may still return here where he spent ample time in his library and sleeping quarters and would have naturally been comfortable.

Being that this was an area we were each individually drawn to, we wanted to begin our investigation here. Early on we gathered a slew of Ovilus activation but not a lot that would have been considered intelligent or communication outside of some words like “Fight” and “Surprise.” Our first session here ended with what sounded like a whistle echoing from out in the hallway so naturally we followed it. As we made our way into the Doll Room we got one hell of a surprise as noted earlier in the Ovilus (more on that later). We did return to the Lincoln Room, and luckily so, to capture a whispered response of “Hear me?” to us explaining that we just want to talk to them and help tell their story. We also heard a breath at that time which did not emanate from us. Following silence we ultimately heard another whisper of “Out.” We obliged and moved on at that point.

Photos:

  • Just outside the Lincoln Room, just as we heard a whistle, a light anomaly was seen moving near the entrance which could not be explained. Attached is a screen capture of that trail camera video.

Recording 1 – EVP:

  • Prior to this recording and even getting properly set up, the Ovilus produced the words ‘Monitor,’ ‘Set up,’ and ‘Luck.’
  • We apologized for not introducing ourselves and the Ovilus then showed ‘Out’ at :38, ‘Jog’ at :45, and ‘Van’ at 1:50. None of these made much sense aside from ‘Out’ as if we weren’t wanted.
  • After explaining that we simply wanted to speak with them, the Ovilus produced ‘Potential’ at 3:00 and ‘Give’ at 3:18 until it gave a string of words together at 3:37 of ‘Fight,’ ‘Material,’ and ‘Triangle.’
  • There was some slight silence that followed until it produced, and emphasized, the word ‘Surprise’ at 6:18.

Recording 2 – EVP:

  • There was further silence, not to mention confusion on our part, until we heard a whistle here out in the hallway at :05.

Recording 3 – EVP:

  • We attempted to track down this noise and this was the moment we came upon the doll which was moved in the Doll Room. At this point we returned to this Lincoln Room to pursue answers to this unexplainable, and barely believable, moment.
  • Prior to the recording the Ovilus gave off ‘Bracelet’ and ‘Funeral.’ The only piece that makes sense or ties together here is the bracelet which the sister doll was wearing.
  • After we explained, once again, that we simply wanted to speak with them and help tell their story we heard a whisper which surprisingly questioned “Hear me?” at :05.
  • A heavy breath was heard at :57 and this was also heard by us in the room at the moment.

Recording 4 – EVP:

  • We asked if they could talk, thinking that perhaps we could utilize our motion activated tools if not, but we heard “Out” whispered to us at :14 to which we obliged after we listened back to the recording.

Video 1 – Trail Camera:

  • A light could be seen at :02 at the bottom middle of this clip as if moving down the hallway.
  • This culminated in a shadow being spotted in the back of the hallway at :07 just as a light anomaly was spotted on the left side of the screen at :08.

Video 2 – Handheld Camera:

  • As we conducted our EVP session and on site review, we placed a handheld camera in the room to capture anything we may not have seen or heard. Much like the recordings, before this video was set, the Ovilus produced the words ‘Monitor,’ ‘Set up,’ and ‘Luck.’
  • After we apologized for not introducing ourselves, the Ovilus showed ‘Out’ at :15, ‘Jog’ at :22, and ‘Van’ at 1:27.
  • We explained that we wanted to speak with them and the Ovilus produced ‘Potential’ at 2:37 and ‘Give’ at 2:55.
  • It gave a string of words at 3:14 of ‘Fight,’ ‘Material,’ and ‘Triangle.’
  • The Ovilus then produced, emphatically, the word ‘Surprise’ at 5:55.
  • We then heard a whistle in the hallway at 8:22.
  • At 10:32, not heard on the recorder, the Ovilus gave ‘Often’ and ‘Cover’ after we asked if they minded speaking with us.
  • Creaking footsteps, also not heard in the recorder, were captured at 15:27 as we were reviewing the previous recording.

Doll Room

Down the hall and around the corner from the Lincoln Room is a room open on both sides but with a bed and some other artifacts from the time of the Judson Mansion and even earlier are stored. On the bed, dolls have been collected over time with no connection to the building or property but simply to fit the time and an homage to what seems to be a child’s room. Aside from these artifacts and bed, there isn’t a lot to this room nor is there much known about its history or utility. This is another location where some visitors have heard odd, unnerving sounds of the pitter patter of small, fast feet paired up with laughter and giggles of children. Perhaps this is simply attributed to pareidolia seeing the dolls on a small bed or maybe there’s something more to these tales.

Aside from our walkthrough, the first time we stopped in this room was following our first session in the Lincoln Room. As we attempted to track down the phantom whispers we heard we were stopped dead in our tracks as one of the dolls was moved to the complete opposite side of the bed. It was first situated up top on the pillows but was moved seemingly ever so gingerly even leaving the dress laid out on top of it. At this point we were all quite shaken up so we actually returned to the Lincoln Room to attempt to figure out how this occurred but we did leave a static recorder during our time away. At the time we did not have the ability to listen back to this but after we did we managed to make out a few particular moments of bangs, knocks, and even a light breathing noise.

During our first time spent here we did not gather much information or communication. Once we brought out our flashlights, light up cat balls, and Phasma Box we seemed to open up a clear line of communication with someone and gave them an opportunity to answer yes/no questions with the motion activated devices. From all of this information, which was a lot, we gathered some intelligent communication in the form of a welcoming “Hello” repeated to us, directional explanations as if they were “Behind,” and even exclamations of “Hiding” and “Help.” Eventually we managed to make out that they were the ones who moved the doll and that they liked playing with our light up devices. We received some more formal sounding intelligent responses in the form of “Yes sir” and “Respect” but ultimately the tone changed when we captured the word “Whipped” and a full phrase of “This is abuse.” As we dug in here a little more trying to get answers we uncovered more strange communication with some phrases like “Crime of passion” and the word “Worse” as we asked about crimes and murder which occurred on the property. These may tie into the rape, set up, and suicide which occurred just down the street but this cannot be confirmed. We did capture a name of “Roger” after we asked who they were afraid of getting them. Finally, after a combination of responses of “Suffocation,” “Very slow,” and “That’s what killed me” we seemed to annoy someone perhaps covering up some type of truth or secret hidden away here as we continued to pry and even recorded related terms of “Guilty,” “He murdered me,” and “With a bullet.” We were then hit with “No” repeatedly followed by silence.

Our final attempt in this area came with the ESTES method. Not much was heard at the time unfortunately but upon our review we did make out some further greetings of “Hello” and, after we didn’t respond, an almost mimicking question of “That thing on?” We also recorded another name at this point of “My name’s Scott” right after hearing the quick phrase of “Foul play.”

Photos:

  • The doll which was moved form the head of the bed to the foot of the bed is documented here.

  • A screen capture of videos showing the motion activated tools lights up including the flashlight, cat ball, and K2 meter.

  • Screen captures of odd light anomalies spotted through our trail camera as well as the handheld camera have been clipped here.

  • The flashlight could be seen turning on though the trail camera via a screen capture here.

Recording 1 – EVP (Static):

  • This first recording was simply set on the bed where the doll had been seen moved. There was a lot of silence until a moment where we heard a banging or knocking sound at :07 followed by a raspy breath at :44, right before the train whistle was heard.

Recording 2 – EVP:

  • There was nothing abnormal or helpful captured or experienced during this first sit down session.

Recording 3 – Phasma Box:

  • As we brought out the Phasma Box, without being prompted by any questions, two oddities were heard here, perhaps connected: “God” at :03 and “Help the wounded” at :34.

Recording 4 – Phasma Box:

  • At :01 we captured “Hey.”
  • As a response to this, we gave a warm and simple welcome by saying hi there to which we heard “Hello” at :10.
  • Upon hearing this, we repeated our greeting of hi there and once more heard “Hello” repeated to us at 1:05.

Recording 5 – Phasma Box:

  • We heard a cry for “Help” at :03 then “Hiding” at :12.

Recording 6 – Phasma Box:

  • We drew in close to the four post bed and suddenly heard “Behind” at :01 as if they were behind us.
  • After we heard this we asked who they were behind to which we captured the word “The light” at :08 as if they were actually behind the flashlight we laid out.
  • As if they were getting irritated with us not clearly communicating with them, we heard “Get out” at :16.
  • Without hearing that previous command at the time, we continued on and asked if they’d like to speak with us through the flashlight to which we recorded a clear response of “Yeah” at :51.

Recording 7 – Phasma Box:

  • Right away, we heard “I’m excited” at :04 as if they were truly excited to use the light up devices.
  • We began and asked if they were excited about a party (information we previously thought we gathered through the Ovilus) and heard a response of “Was” at :30.
  • After putting some things together and questioning that maybe it was a surprise party we recorded a whisper not through the Phasma Box which sounded like “What about the other one?” at :49 as if they were referring to an additional flashlight and disregarding our question.
  • A question of “What can I tell them?” was heard at 1:08 as if someone was attempting to get permission to speak with us.

Recording 8 – Phasma Box:

  • Some confusing communication was heard then in the form of “Don’t get testy” at :04 and “I had six” at :08 as if we were overhearing others speaking, not directly to us.

Recording 9 – Phasma Box:

  • Right before this clip, the flashlight had turned on then back off as if trying to get our attention.
  • We asked if they could turn the light back on and we heard a disgruntled “I guess” at :07.
  • After we continued to get them to use the flashlight to speak with us, we heard a plea of “Help me” repeated at :53 and :57.

Recording 10 – Phasma Box:

  • The flashlight flickered right before this so then we tried some experiments. Every time Dan put his head down or looked away, the light seemed to turn on. At this point, Dan put his head down again at the light turned on then off at :01.
  • The word “Piano” was then heard at :11.
  • Dan once again lowered his head but this time no light turned on instead we captured “What happened?” at :48 as if someone was playing with him.
  • The word “Technology” was then playfully heard at :49 as if someone was happy to be speaking to us through our technological devices.

Recording 11 – Phasma Box:

  • We then heard a warning of “There is someone coming” at :02.
  • The motion activated cat ball lit at :19 followed by a phrase of “Couldn’t help it” at :23 as if they could not help themselves but play with the light up toy.
  • The cat ball once again turned on as if moved at :36.
  • Attempting to use this tool now, we asked if they could light it up again to which we heard a formal “Yes sir” at 1:00 followed by the cat ball turning on at 1:01.
  • We told them thank you for doing that and heard “Respect” at 1:03.

Recording 12 – Phasma Box:

  • After re-focusing on the cat ball, we asked if they could once again turn this one but suddenly heard an almost exasperated phrase of “Go away” at :05 and yet the ball did light at the same time.
  • The flashlight then flickered at :32.
  • We explained that they would have to choose one if they want to speak with us; either the light or the ball. At :56, we captured an annoyed “Wait a minute” followed by “Mad” at 2:18 after we repeated this request.

Recording 13 – Phasma Box:

  • The K2 meter then turned on right before this moment.
  • We asked if they wanted us to move on and the flashlight turned on at :05.
  • After we attempted to confirm this by repeating the question, the phrase “With them” occurred at :12 as if they wanted us all to go.

Recording 14 – Phasma Box:

  • With the flashlight previously turning off, we asked if they could once again turn it on and, at :07, we heard “No.”
  • We repeated our request and asked if they could turn it on and this time we heard this denial repeated but much more formally with a “No thanks” at :09.
  • At :29, “In between” was heard so we asked if they wanted to ask them about death and we captured a nearly sarcastic “Really? Great” at :53.
  • We followed this and asked what they thought about this idea and heard “This is abuse” at 1:01 followed by “Don’t say that” at 1:36 as if they had no interest in going there.

Recording 15 – Phasma Box:

  • After some silence we heard a strange phrase of “That’s how it is” at :01.
  • We explained to one another that the communication and energy seems to come in intense bursts and heard them agree with a “Yes sir” at :11.
  • As we continued to pry, we asked if they were stuck here and heard “No” at :37 followed by an explanation of “There’s good people here” at :45.
  • Continuing to speak about these good people, they explained that “There’s another one” at :55.

Recording 16 – Phasma Box:

  • At :03 we captured an odd phrase of “Two found” followed by an odd but understandable question of “Who are you people?” at :08.
  • An odd combination of words was then heard and, if combined, could possibly be explained the Moore rape and suicide beginning with “Drunk” at :41. This continued with “Crime of passion” at :48, “Enough” at :52, and finally “Worse” at 1:01 after we asked if they were referring to a crime committed on this property.

Recording 17 – Phasma Box:

  • More flashing lights were seen prior to this clip.
  • At :06 the word “Help” was heard as if those flashlights were trying to get our attention beforehand.

Recording 18 – Phasma Box:

  • The energy seemed to change and shift at this point as we were told that they “Set you up for that” at :05 as if they were toying with us.
  • At :10, we were warned to “Prepare yourself” followed by “For what” at :12 as if once more they were just messing with us.

Recording 19 – Phasma Box:

  • We got back on track with questioning and asked if something bad happened to them and heard, shockingly, “I was shot” at :10.
  • This was followed with what seemed like a continuation here with a phrase of “With a bullet” at :15.

Recording 20 – Phasma Box:

  • Following more lights flickering, we explained that whoever made them afraid before no longer has power over them. At :13 we heard a more positive sounding phrase agreeing with us of “Darn straight.”
  • We continued on here and explained that we also do not want them to be afraid any longer. At :54 we heard the start of a full phrase with the word “Changing” followed by “My spirit” at :56 as if we were truly helping them.
  • The fear seemed to return temporarily with the phrase “He’s gonna get me” at 1:03.
  • After asking them who they are afraid of getting them, we heard the name “Roger” at 1:30.
  • A phrase of “He called me” was captured at 1:37 then a single word of “Sold” at 1:44.

Recording 21 – Phasma Box:

  • There were some frightening phrases heard at this point beginning with “Bang on the desk” at :06 then “He whipped me” at :16. Put together, this seems as if there was mistreatment of someone in the past.
  • The plea of “Don’t use it” was then heard at :39 as if they didn’t want to be hit with whatever weapon they were previously referencing, perhaps a whip?
  • More combinations began to be heard here and, if put together, do in fact make sense. This started with “Suffocation” at :43 continuing with “Very slow” at :46 then, awe inspiringly, “That’s what killed me” at :54.
  • We repeated what we heard at that point and, as if confirming this, we captured “Yes” at :59.
  • While we were writing down what we heard, the word “Transcript” was recorded at 1:03 as if recognizing that we were writing all of this down.

Recording 22 – Phasma Box:

  • Another phantom banging noise was heard at :02 followed by about five seconds of music continuously playing through the Phasma Box at :14-:19; this has never occurred before.
  • We discussed and openly questioned that noise and heard an odd word of “Mallet” at :21.

Recording 23 – Phasma Box:

  • We circled back to the suffocation comment and asked what suffocated them. At :03, the K2 meter lit just as we heard “That thing.”
  • The word “Guilty” was then captured at :20 followed by another shocking phrase of “He murdered me” at :37.
  • We asked directly what happened to them and heard a strange sound of “Iss miss” at 1:07. This was interpreted as ESTES in the moment so we transitioned into an ETES session.

Recording 24 – ESTES:

  • As we began here, we did not start by asking questions right away, rather we explained how this worked and sat in some silence. We did hear a question “Hello?” twice though at :03 and :08 as if they were getting impatient.
  • At :15, we were then asked “That thing on?” as we still could not make anything out.

Recording 25 – ESTES:

  • We did finally ask who we were speaking with and heard a surprised question broken up in parts starting with “Who?” at :05 then “Me?” at :08.
  • As we did not respond to this, the impatient “Hello?” was heard once more at :41.

Recording 26 – ESTES:

  • A very strange phrase of “Foul play” was then recorded at :10 followed by “My name’s Scott” at 1:05. Whether these two are tied together we are unsure, but this name did come up again later on.

Recording 27 – ESTES:

  • The word “Got” was heard at :04, unprompted.

Recording 28 – ESTES:

  • Finally, as we were thanking them for their time and energy, we heard “Love, love, love” at :15.

Video 1 – Cell Camera:

  • Prior to this video, the flashlight turned on.
  • This lasted until :04 into this clip.

Video 2 – Cell Camera:

  • As Dan put his head down, the flashlight turned on at about :21 then back off at :31.

Video 3 – Cell Camera:

  • The cat ball had already been going off when this clip began but shut off at :05.
  • The cat ball once again turned on at :06 then back off at :12.
  • Once more, the same cat ball could be seen turning on at :16 then stopped at :23. At this point we decided to test it and we literally jumped near it and nothing happened.
  • It did finally go off due to us moving at :24 then shut off at :29.

Video 4 – Cell Camera:

  • The cat ball could be seen going off before this video started and ending at :03.

Video 5 – Cell Camera:

  • The K2 meter began to activate here and could be seen jumping at :20, :22, and :29.

Video 6 – Trail Camera:

  • On the left hand side of the screen a strange moving light anomaly could be seen at :02 above the doll which previously moved.

Video 7 – Handheld Camera:

  • At about :23, we entered the room and noticed the doll had been moved.
  • There was a creaking heard at 2:35 and we could be seen reacting to this.

Video 8 – Handheld Camera (Static):

  • At 4:25, a clicking sound was heard but was unexplainable.
  • There was a moment where we heard a banging or knocking at 15:28 followed by a low breath at 16:05.

Video 9 – Handheld Camera:

  • Two phenomena were heard here: “God” at 2:41 and “Help the wounded” at :3:12.
  • At 3:29 we captured “Hey,” and as a response to this, we gave a welcome in return saying hi there to which we heard “Hello” at 3:38.
  • We heard a cry for “Help” at 4:33 then “Hiding” at 4:51.
  • We repeated our greeting and heard “Hello” repeated to us at 5:00.
  • We stood near the bed and heard “Behind” at 8:04 as if they were behind us.
  • After we heard this we asked who they were behind and we captured the word “The light” at 8:11 as if they were actually behind the flashlight we laid out.
  • We heard “Get out” at 8:19.
  • Without hearing that previous command, we continued and asked if they’d like to speak through the flashlight to which we recorded a clear response of “Yeah” at 8:54.
  • “I’m excited” was heard at 10:17 as if they were truly excited to use the light up devices.
  • We asked if they were excited about a party and heard “Was” at 10:43.
  • After questioning that maybe it was a surprise party we recorded a whisper not through the Phasma Box of “What about the other one?” at 11:02 as if they were referring to an additional flashlight.
  • “What can I tell them?” was heard at 11:21 as if someone was attempting to get permission to speak with us.
  • Some communication was then heard: “Don’t get testy” at 11:42 and “I had six” at 11:46.
  • The flashlight had turned on at 11:59 then back off at 12:12 as if trying to get our attention.
  • We asked if they could turn the light back on and heard“I guess” at 12:40.
  • We heard a plea of “Help me” repeated at 13:26 and 13:30.
  • The flashlight flickered at 13:37 so followed with some experiments. Every time Dan put his head down or looked away, the light seemed to turn on. Dan put his head down again at the light turned on then off at 14:14.
  • The word “Piano” was then heard at 14:24.
  • Dan once again lowered his head but this time no light turned on instead we captured “What happened?” at 15:01 as if someone was playing with him.
  • The word “Technology” was then heard at 15:02 as if someone was happy to be speaking through our technological devices.
  • We then heard “There is someone coming” at 17:10.
  • The motion activated cat ball lit at 17:27 followed by “Couldn’t help it” at 17:31 as if they could not help themselves but play with the toy.
  • The cat ball once again turned on as if moved at 17:44.
  • We asked if they could light it up again and heard“Yes sir” at 18:08 followed by the cat ball turning on at 18:09.
  • We told them thank you for doing that and heard “Respect” at 18:11.
  • We asked if they could turn this on but heard “Go away” at 19:03 and the ball lit at the same time then the flashlight flickered at 19:30.
  • We explained that they would have to choose one if they wanted to speak with us and at 19:54, we captured an annoyed “Wait a minute” followed by “Mad” at 20:16 after we repeated this request.
  • The K2 meter turned on at 20:43 then we asked if they wanted us to move on and the flashlight turned on at 21:50.
  • We attempted to confirm this by repeating the question, “With them” occurred at 22:02 as if they wanted us all to go.
  • The flashlight turned off at 22:23 so we asked if they could turn it on and, at 22:47, we heard “No.”
  • We asked if they could turn it on and this time we heard “No thanks” at 22:49.
  • At 23:12, “In between” was heard so we asked if they wanted to ask them about death and captured “Really? Great” at 23:36.
  • We asked what they thought about this idea and heard “This is abuse” at 23:44 followed by “Don’t say that” at 24:19 as if they had no interest.
  • We heard a strange phrase of “That’s how it is” at 25:09 so we spoke to one another that the communication and energy seemed to come in intense bursts and heard them agree with a “Yes sir” at 25:19.
  • As we continued, we asked if they were stuck here and heard “No” at 25:45 followed by “There’s good people here” at 25:53.
  • They explained that “There’s another one” at 26:03.
  • At 26:11 we heard “Two found” followed by a question of “Who are you people?” at 26:16.
  • A combination of “Drunk” at 26:49 was continued with  “Crime of passion” at 26:56 then “Enough” at 27:00 and finally “Worse” at 27:09 after we asked if they were referring to a crime committed on this property.
  • More flashlights were seen flickering at 27:32.
  • There was a clicking noise heard at 28:12 then, at 28:26, the flashlight could be seen turning on.
  • At 28:34 the word “Help” was heard as if those flashlights were trying to get our attention beforehand.
  • We were told “Set you up for that” at 31:03 as if they were toying with us.
  • At 31:08, we were warned to “Prepare yourself” followed by “For what” at 31:10.
  • We asked if something bad happened to them and heard “I was shot” at 31:33.
  • This was followed with a phrase of “With a bullet” at 31:38.
  • Following more lights flickering at 32:12, we explained that whoever made them afraid before no longer has power over them.
  • At 32:41 we heard a phrase agreeing with us of “Darn straight.”
  • We continued on and explained that we do not want them to be afraid any longer and at 33:17 we heard the start of a phrase with “Changing” followed by “My spirit” at 33:24.
  • The fear seemed to return with the phrase “He’s gonna get me” at 33:31.
  • We asked them who was going to get them, and we heard “Roger” at 33:58.
  • “He called me” was captured at 34:05 then a word of “Sold” at 34:12.
  • There were some phrases heard at this point beginning with “Bang on the desk” at 35:09 then “He whipped me” at 35:19.
  • “Don’t use it” was heard at 35:42 as if they didn’t want to be hit with a possible weapon.
  • Combinations began to be heard here and do seem to make sense. This started with “Suffocation” at 35:46 then “Very slow” at 35:49 and “That’s what killed me” at 35:57.

  • This flashlight turned off at 6:52.
  • Finally, after we asked if we should head to the basement, the flashlight turned on as if a yes response at 9:45.

Well Room

Down on the first floor, hidden off in a side room is an area where more old relics are kept and stored for future use. It was very interesting to see some of these old pieces regardless if they were actually from the mansion or property. One of the more fascinating, and really ingenious, pieces was that of a dog conveyor belt utilized for butter churching and corn/grain milling. Also in this room were old tools like saws and axes as well as weaponry. The most intriguing part of the room is its namesake; the well. It’s unknown whether this was the original well to the former forts or if this was dug just for the mansion. What is known is that it is at least as old as the mansion but it would be believable if at some point this was found out to be the original well and simply re-bricked. This is another area where phantom noises are heard and shadows even appear and disappear at a whim.

As we were unloading our gear earlier in the night we felt uneasy and very unwelcomed. Following our walk through we noticed what appeared to be a shadow passing through the doorway. Unfortunately the time we spent here was fruitless and we didn’t record any communication or oddities.

Photos:

  • There was nothing to note here.

Recording 1 – EVP:

  • Nothing heard here was of a paranormal nature.

Basement

Through a narrow door and down a set of wooden steps this stone walled and dirt floored area shows remnants of the past combined with some glimpses of modern expansion. The area is separated by support walls and low ceilings but also showcases a large, oversized furnace utilized for modern conveniences obviously after the building was renovated into a museum. Aside from the mundane construction features, a large open area is left with wooden planks sprawled across the floor which signifies a former well or some type of  large opening in the floor. It’s possible this could even be the original well to the old forts. This location is one that seems to inspire fear in the volunteers who work here typically on their own. Most of these volunteers do not like going downstairs on their own and feel as though they are being watched and followed. Whispers have been said to emanate from this underground area but it never seems to be deciphered nor is any identity provided.

This area was intended to simply be our next stop but with all of the intelligent answers and conversation we gathered here, we ended up spending so much time here that this was actually the last location we would investigate. The evidence began with simple EVP’s with responses to our questions and even helped us gather a name of “Scott,” which was also heard earlier in the night, and another heavy breathing was captured in this moment and was also heard live at the time. Once we utilized the Spirit Box we were able to hear even more communication live in the moment. We received simple yet intelligent responses to our questions here and even heard a cry for “Help” not just once but actually three times. As we seemingly pried too much for further answers we were told to “Go away.” This all led us to our final moment of the investigation but one that lasted for quite some time and gave even more responses thanks to our pendulum. This communication period gave us more insight into this individual telling us that they died on the property but they were not in the military. We were also made aware that they were associated with the property but not related to the Judson family. It was eventually explained to us that they were a servant and that they were mistreated. While we gathered the name “Scott” earlier in the night we asked if this was their name which we were emphatically told yes not just with the pendulum but also the K2 meter and Spirit Light. We did offer our help and even though they took us up on this with very predominant yes responses we were told we could not help them while we were there. Instead they wanted us to pass along that they are in the basement and willing to speak to guests. They also asked that we tell the historic society that they may be able to uncover their history with documentation and research. Outside of these yes and no responses, we were unable to gather much more information on them.

Photos:

  • There were moments during our time here that the cat ball and K2 meter were alerted at different times. These were captures in videos and the screen captures can be seen here.

Recording 1 – EVP:

  • We asked if they could say something into our device to let us know they were willing to talk. At :13, we heard a concise “No.”
  • After asking them if they could make a little noise and to let us know they’re nearby we heard the name “Scott” once more at 1:05.

Recording 2 – EVP:

  • At the time, we heard and reacted to a deep breath close by. This was also captured here at :04.

Recording 3 – Spirit Box:

  • With these moments, we opted to activate the Spirit Box and attempt a different type of communication line. Right before we managed to roll this recorder, the cat ball lit up and rolled.
  • We explained that we wanted to have a chat with them and asked if that would be okay. Through the air, an EVP and not the Spirit Box, we heard “No” at :24.

Recording 4 – Spirit Box:

  • We told them, after the cat ball lit again, that if they were trying to get our attention that they now have it. A cry out of “Help” was then captured at :05. This repeated at :26.
  • At 1:06, just as the Spirit Light turned on, we heard “Go away.”

Recording 5 – Spirit Box:

  • After explaining the static noise would help them to speak with us, we heard an argumentative “It won’t” at :12 followed by another cry for “Help” at :15.

Recording 6 – Pendulum:

  • While utilizing the pendulum here, we left this section read more like a transcript rather than pinpointing any particular evidence since it was all witnessed by eye and in person rather than anything heard or seen otherworldly.
  • We began here by pinpointing our yes and no responses with side to side would equate to a yes response and front to back would refer to a no response.
  • After we asked if they were still with us, at :45, we received a yes response.
  • As we tried to figure out who we were speaking with we asked if this was the same person who was with us earlier and received another yes at 1:29.
  • Rather than utilizing the pendulum at this point, the K2 meter spiked after we asked if their name was Scott around 2:20.
  • The pendulum did finally sway and show a yes response at 2:29 just as the Spirit Light turned on as well as if they were truly attempting to draw our attention to the name of Scott.
  • Following this, we asked if it was okay if we asked questions directly about them and at 3:17, the pendulum provided a yes movement.
  • We started off a little on the nose and asked if they died around here to which we were given a yes answer at 3:46.
  • After we asked if they were in the military, we were told no at 4:10.
  • We followed this and asked if he was associated with the house at the time of his death and, at 4:47, we received a yes response.
  • Continuing to be direct, we asked if he was a Judson family member to which we got an inconclusive response where the pendulum just spun in circles at 5:17.
  • We took a moment and repeated the question and this time received a no response at 5:43.
  • After we asked if he worked at the house we did not get any response at all. This occurred around 6:43. We immediately rephrased this and asked if they were a servant to which we received a yes.
  • Continuing this train of thought and previous correspondence we received we asked if they were mistreated here and we were given a yes answer at 7:04.
  • We explained that we want to help tell their story so we asked if that’s something they wanted us to do and we received a yes at 7:53 just as the K2 meter spiked.
  • With this information, we asked if there was any better way to communicate with them to help get a clear picture of their life and at 8:38 we were told no thanks to the pendulum.
  • After asking if the Historical Society and Heidi could possibly find written documentation of them we received a yes answer at 9:05.
  • The pendulum gave us a profound yes response then at 9:30 as we asked if they trust us.
  • Unsure where to go from here we asked if slave was a more accurate term to which we were told yes at 10:18.
  • Proceeding here we asked if their masters were white to which we received another yes answer at 10:44.
  • There was then a loud thump captured at 10:50 (and pulled aside and clipped out for a better listen below).
  • The K2 meter and Spirit Light both activated simultaneously following this at 10:54.
  • We wanted to reconfirm with them if they realized we simply wanted to help them and the pendulum showed a yes response at 11:36.
  • With the history they’ve endured we asked if it may be a little difficult to trust us and got a yes response at 11:58.
  • Following this moment, we noticed a shadow moving in the corner of the room around 12:18.
  • As we commented on this, the Spirit Light jumped on across the room at 12:41.
  • We continued to dig here for their identity and asked if they died as a result of an accident and at 13:18 we received a yes answer.
  • Following this, we asked if they were the ones we were speaking with earlier regarding suffocating and we given a yes at 13:50. Not long after, at 14:01, the K2 meter lit up.
  • Another darkness was seen moving in the corner of the room at 14:25.
  • Gathering ourselves and continuing this, we asked if they felt better speaking with us now and the pendulum swung in a yes motion at 14:52.
  • We thanked them for speaking with us and received a very hard moving yes response at 15:03.
  • After asking if there was anything we could do to help them we were given yes at 15:49.
  • As we asked if there was anything more to their story that we might be able to learn tonight we received a yes response at 16:06.
  • Digging further here we asked if it was something we could find for them and received a no response at 16:42.
  • We asked if there was someone else stuck here with them and were told yes via the pendulum at 17:42.
  • After we explained that we would get those involved with the property to help spread their word and their existence the K2 meter lit at 18:35 and we received a yes response at 18:41.
  • After some silence and wanting to close out we asked if they previously heard us compliment them and the people of their time period with how much they accomplished with such little resources. We were given a yes at 20:02.
  • We explained that it’s our goal and hope to have others come and speak with them and help learn from them. As we asked if that might help bring them some peace we received a final yes response at 20:55.

Recording 6a – Pendulum (Broken Out from Above):

  • There was then a loud thump captured at :10 in the middle of the pendulum session.

Video 1 – Cell Camera:

  • Prior to filming this, the cat ball had lit up and moved. This lasted until about :04.
  • Once again, the cat ball lit back up at :06 and lasted until :12.
  • At :14, the cat ball could be seen lighting up as if pushed again.

Video 2 – Cell Camera:

  • The K2 meter could be seen flickering here at :09.

Video 3 – Handheld Camera:

  • There were a few moments where the cat ball lit, each time unprompted, at :08, :22. :35, and :57.
  • We explained that we wanted to have a chat with them and asked if that would be okay. Through the air, an EVP and not the Spirit Box, we heard “No” at 2:34.
  • We told them that if they were trying to get our attention that they now have it. A cry of “Help” was then captured at 4:15 and again at 4:36.
  • At 5:16 the Spirit Light turned on and we heard “Go away.”

After we focused our full attention to the details of our evidence and opened our mind to the unexplained instances we experienced during our paranormal investigation of the Judson House in Waterford, PA we were able to complete a full analysis of all of our recorded data. With this, we have been able to conclude that the building holds a strong energy linked to the past and even some individuals. It’s very likely that the entire property and even town hold just as much if not more of this otherworldly energy but without spending more time on both, it’s not our place to say. The combination of the original building, preserved artifacts from the grounds, replicated duplicates of furniture and living spaces, and artwork all seem to hold their own supernatural elements which give way to the paranormal activity, both intelligent and residual, which occurs in this historic mansion. We believe that our personal experiences during the investigation paired up with our captured evidence, in the form of voice recordings, still photographs, and both stationary and mobile videos, have helped us pinpoint the areas which are most active with unexplainable activity and narrow down some of these energies in the forms of spirits by their names, occupations, and even how some of them expired from this earthly plain.

There is ample written documentation regarding the property, forts, mansion, and even those who lived and worked in this area but what is lacking is that of how these individuals lived and adapted to the ever changing times during which they occupied this area. This is not simply in relation to Amos and his relatives but also dating back to both British and French forts and even before then in regards to the Native Americans and their use of this land as burial grounds. We have nothing but admiration for the amount of success these forebears were able to accomplish with so little resources available to them that we simply want to be able to learn all about their lives and help tell their stories. By completing this investigation and paying special attention to the spirits’ lives, identifications, and life stories we hope to share this with all; volunteers and visitors alike.

There can be no question that this mansion, with its rich history and tales of tragedy, has left an intense and everlasting imprint on the land available for anyone who has the foresight and open mind to look deep enough. Throughout the building particular rooms have a certain draw to them and the atmosphere within each seemed to change as the night drew on. It’s unknown why each room would feel different or why certain energies would be drawn to different areas for the most part but with the drawn out and painful deaths which occurred here it can be no wonder that there are remnants of the past which we cannot fully comprehend.

We encountered what seemed to be children spirits playing with our light up devices acting as though they were toys. They never tended to cause mischief or acted deceitful in any way but they were not exactly helpful when it came to identifying them or their purpose for returning here. It also seemed likely that there was someone, with some type of unknown motive, who stayed close to these children and almost kept them from opening up to us and speaking any further. Whether this was due to some malevolent means or simply protective is not known to this point. It did seem as though some of these stronger energies were able to speak to us about past incidents, how they died, and even a few names which we managed to record like Scott (numerous times) and Roger. The shadows and physical knocks and bangs were unidentified but seemed to be distracting techniques which were used to pull our attention away any time we seemed to get closer to some type of communication. These phantom sounds and verbal communication were all recorded on our digital recorders and portable cameras whereas we managed to capture some odd light anomalies through our stationary cameras even though these were untraceable and lacked true communication.

Our time in the Lincoln Room kicked off our investigation as we were each drawn to this room at different times during our walk through and set up. We captured a clear whistle sound here right after our Ovilus produced the word ‘Surprise’ which we combined and realized this was someone, most likely the children, drawing our attention toward them and the fact that they moved the doll in the other room. As we continued our communication here we did record an EVP asking if these spirits could be heard with “Hear me?” as we explained that we simply wanted to tell their stories. After some further communication attempts here we seemed to be pushed out the door by some other energy with another EVP based whisper of “Out” This is what we believe is either that protective or controlling force as if shadowing over the children.

Following the aforementioned whistle, our first encounter in the Doll Room occurred with shock and awe as the doll was clearly moved from one side of the bed to the other. We managed to piece some of these activities together to believe that these children were playing and, occasionally, trying to get our attention. This was no more evident than the banging noises heard during our time away from this room through a static recorder we left here combined with a breathing. Even though we did not capture much in the form of communication, our flashlights and cat balls seemed to draw their attention as they seemed to enjoy lighting up these objects. The most verbal communication we gathered here was in the form of the Phasma Box which provided us with a few pieces of information which helped us formulate that these kids were in fact intelligent spirits. They gave us simple greetings of “Hello” and formalities which children of the past most certainly would have been taught in “Yes sir” and “Respect.” These children were eventually able to gain the confidence and courage to tell us where they were with “Behind” and timidly explained that they were “Hiding” and needed “Help.” We never did gather where they were hiding or what exactly they needed help with but they seemed to either be silenced or forced out as we received a change in the atmosphere and energy and even captured some unsettling communication in the form of “Whip” and “This is abuse” but, again, this was the extent of this information and we never were able to hear further of who was telling us this or if this was simple residual energy. We did gather the name “Roger” here but unfortunately we were unable to pinpoint who he was, perhaps the one forcing the kids out or the one who was getting abused? This energy seemed to once again shift and refer to past history, which we did not necessarily realize at the time, with “Crime of passion” possibly in reference to the rape and suicide which occurred nearby but not on the property. This speculation continued after we asked if murder was committed on the property and we captured “Worse.” The communication continued with more and, most likely, a different incident reference with “Suffocation,” “Very slow,” and “That’s what killed me.” We are unsure how this ties into the building or property as nothing has been documented about any type of incidents here reminiscent of these actions but we were again pushed toward this realization as we heard another trio of unsettling communication with “Guilty,” “He murdered me,” and “With a bullet.” As we made one final attempt in this area with the ESTES method, we captured “Foul play” which could potentially tie into the previous comments but more interesting we recorded a phrase of “My name’s Scott” which this name amazingly occurred once more later on in the night. Though there is no reference of Scott with the history of the property.

Even though we attempted sessions in other areas like the Well Room and trained cameras on locations like the Kitchen, we did not have much luck aside from our final sit down session for the night even though we didn’t realize it at the time; the Basement. We received verbal communication through simple EVP’s as well as the Spirit Box but the most time was spent utilizing our pendulum which gave us yes/no responses. Even though we mention “simple EVP’s” simple is most definitely an understatement and these are very rare but this location as a whole produced a significant amount of them and ultimately helped lead us to our conclusion of paranormal activity present but also the identity of a “Scott” which this name was presented to us more than once. This occurred again in this Basement area but unfortunately we were never able to pinpoint who exactly Scott is and how he fits into the history of the property. During our time here we captured another heavy breathing and spotted a dark shadow moving more than once. With the Spirit Box supporting our communication we heard a plea for “Help” three times but were eventually told to “Go away” as if someone was also watching over this area or simply did not want us to dig any deeper. Against our better judgment we proceeded anyway and utilized our pendulum which helped provide us with more answers. Even though the property was never associated with slavery and rather the entire town was filled with abolitionists, we uncovered that this entity down here was a mistreated servant but he was not tied into the Judson family. We were also told that this energy was in fact the “Scott” we were speaking with earlier and that they died on the property but were not military. Toward the end of our time here we did find out that he wanted some type of help, a type that we were told we were unable to currently assist with although this individual believed that those who volunteered here could find out more documented information about them and help tell their story that way, which we truly hope is a possibility.

Following our full review and analysis of our entire night including captured evidence and experienced phenomena we can conclude, to the best of our ability, that there are a collection of spirits linked to the plethora of energy which resides inside the Judson House and tied to the property where it currently resides and where two former forts once were occupied. These spirits have yet to move onto the afterlife, have some kind of story to tell or unfinished business, or simply returned to a place they once loved during their lifetime. These individuals vary from timid children to protective or controlling overseers, Amos himself, residual energies, and a particular former servant to the land simply referred to as Scott. With all of these pieces of evidence combined with some of the past tales and historical documentation we have full confidence in our claim that the Judson House does in fact hold both intelligent and residual energies which overlap one another and intertwined within both time and space to form an interesting, awe-inspiring, and truly fascinating historical and paranormal location. The spirits here tend to seek attention and want to express their stories, for the most part, as much as they can before being shut down by other forces who do not want them to speak. It’s our heartfelt and genuine belief that the historical society and its caring volunteers have brought back love and kindness to this property and play a pivotal role in allowing these spirits to reside in a comfortable, welcoming building open to all who seek it; both living and deceased.
