Caliente Pizza & Drafthouse (Crafton) Investigation
October 17, 2025
Crafton, PA
Investigation
Just outside Pittsburgh’s city limits, where the hum of West Steuben Street fades into the rhythm of neighborhood life, stands a three-story brick building that has seen more than a century of laughter, conversation, and quiet unease. Today, it’s known as Caliente Pizza & Draft House which is a busy restaurant serving craft beer and world-class pizza. Long before the first oven fired here, the building had already collected its share of stories. Shadowed hallways, unseen footsteps, whispers that rise when the air turns still. It’s a place where history hasn’t simply settled, it’s restless.
Our team arrived well after sunset, close to 9 P.M., with the smell of fresh dough and the faint echo of music giving way to something heavier as we stepped inside. Caliente still carries the bones of its early tavern days, that of arched windows, brick walls, and a basement that feels far older than the rest. Almost immediately, we felt the layered atmosphere familiar to buildings that have endured generations of patrons, owners, and energy where warmth and welcome coexist with an undercurrent of something unseen. While this was not our first visit, the energy felt different this time around, not in a bad way by any means, just simply different.

Staff stories, long-held rumors, and even our prior visit guided our initial focus: a shadow that crosses the attic window when no one is upstairs, a woman’s whisper captured in an otherwise silent room, and phantom handprints that appeared overnight on freshly painted walls. These aren’t isolated claims, rather they’re a pattern spanning years, described by everyone from longtime delivery drivers to the building’s former owners.
Our first walkthrough, weeks prior to this investigation, began on the main floor, where the energy remained calm, almost deceptive in its normalcy. As we ascended the narrow stairwell toward the second floor, that changed. Near the front threshold, a sudden shift in pressure made the air feel charged. In a small nook toward the front, the sensation grew stronger: a tightening in the chest, the static of something waiting. When we reached the attic, the location of the reported shadow figure, the atmosphere thickened. Here, one investigator felt a brush against his ear. It was light but distinct, as though walking through unseen threads. Later, while reviewing recordings, we discovered an audio clip of a woman’s voice faintly trying to speak. When the team reviewed photographs, what appeared next was startling: three faces in the glass. One captured a man in a hat, another the image of a woman, and the third that of a smaller, childlike form between them.

Even before the night fully began, it was clear the building wanted to participate. Subtle drafts moved through closed spaces, the EMF detector flickered to life in empty corners, and the same window where shadows had been seen seemed to draw attention without cause. Whether residual, intelligent, or something in between, the phenomena at Caliente Pizza & Draft House defied coincidence. What once served as a gathering place for the living, which still very much does we might add, now appears to host a gathering of another kind.
Our paranormal investigation traced that boundary between the ordinary and the inexplicable, following whispers through stairwells, static-filled air, and the dim glow of a restaurant that never truly closes its doors.
We arrived on site around 9:00 PM to begin our overnight investigation at Caliente Pizza & Draft House, a three-story brick building that has stood at the corner of West Steuben Street for over a century. Rather than jumping right in, we took our time and got acquainted with the property and try to get settled in and comfortable.
Almost immediately, the upstairs space carried a noticeable heaviness, as though the walls themselves were alert to our arrival. The air in the dining area was warm and welcoming but the further up we got, the air felt thicker. This was noticeable in the front corner of the second floor but most evident in the third floor attic. Several of our sensitives described a presence observing from the far corner near the front windows. After we unloaded our equipment, introduced ourselves to the space, and took time to ground our energy, the mood began to shift. It was as if the building slowly decided to trust us, recognizing that our purpose was one of respect and understanding rather than intrusion.

We set up a range of devices across the main and upper floors, including motion-activated trail cameras, rempods, cat balls, and audio recorders. Even before we began formal sessions, we captured unexplained motion and light activity in the form of rempods activating, cat balls lighting up, and the Spirit Light alerting us to a changing energy.
With the changing energies, both seen and felt, we wanted to jump into an open communication which began on the second floor dining space that drew us in with a strong pull. Our first active area of the night was the front corner of the dining space, where both the rempod and cat ball responded repeatedly. Energy seemed to gather there in cycles, quiet for a few minutes, then pulsing back to life. But before long, we were drawn past the staircase and deeper into the dining area, led by our medium’s growing sense of urgency. Through her impressions, a woman began to emerge, one who had experienced severe violence at the hands of a man. Her story felt desperate to be told which led to the group splitting in two; one of which stayed on the second floor to continue the investigation, the second which followed the woman downstairs as if her energy seeking an audience.

While we didn’t realize at the time, as all of this was occurring, one trail camera recorded the attic door shifting on its own, while another caught the cat ball visibly moving without any physical interference. Simultaneously, light anomalies appeared across several angles that could not be explained as dust or insects.
Unlike some investigations where activity peaks early, this night unfolded in deliberate waves. Between active sessions, the team spent time simply engaging with the environment; talking, sharing observations, and letting the energy settle naturally. Throughout the evening, we heard echoing bangs, distant footsteps, and subtle movements from the upper floors, often coinciding with equipment responses in adjacent rooms.
After the team made their way upstairs, main communication occurred through the ESTES Method, as we began receiving fragmented messages: phrases like “I’m here,” “Family,” “Broken heart,” and “I hate my aunt.” This was only topped by the name “Jimmy” followed by “O” which tied together with the comment regarding his aunt. According to historical documentation, James O’Donnell passed away after a severely debilitating heart attack leading his aunt to take control of the family home ultimately selling the property. The tone here felt emotional and angry. On several occasions, we also heard what sounded like a man’s voice pairing pushing through out of thin air and not using any device adding to these anomalies.

As the night progressed, multiple investigators experienced physical sensations—from cold drafts and pressure changes to the feeling of being brushed or touched when no one else was nearby. Despite these unnerving moments, the energy never felt malevolent; instead, it carried a deep sadness, as if reliving an unresolved trauma embedded within the building’s walls. More than these, a deeply emotional, although unsettling and uncomfortable, one of the investigators kept sensing a tightness of the chest and pain running down the arm, all of which correlated to heart attack symptoms. These sensations also led to stomach aches and severe pains leading the medium to the floor as if recreating the pain caused by an unknown man on a woman who is still yet to be identified.
We left several recorders and cameras running through the night, and early evidence review revealed continued motion and footsteps during the team’s absence, suggesting that activity persisted outside of the sessions that were conducted and before the team began communication attempts while continuing through our clean up process at the end of the night.
Below, we’ve compiled the evidence, personal experiences, and interpretations from our investigation of Caliente Pizza & Draft House. Every clip, photo, and sound file has been analyzed with an intent to first debunk with environmental explanations before claiming anything at all is paranormal or supernatural. What remains are compelling instances of unexplained motion, intelligent responses, and emotionally charged energy, all suggesting that the history of this Crafton landmark may still echo through its walls long after closing time.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to Caliente Pizza & Draft House and its entire staff for their incredible hospitality and openness in allowing us to explore their historic location. As always, you have been warned, some of this is not for the faint of heart and can be slightly explicit:
Pre-Investigation Walkthrough
Our initial walkthrough of Caliente Pizza & Draft House took place several weeks prior to the investigation and served as both an introduction to the building and a gauge of the atmosphere that so many have described as uneasy. From the moment we stepped through the front door, the space carried a palpable charge, a heaviness beneath the casual hum of the restaurant that seemed to echo the countless stories of shadow figures, whispers, and unseen movement.
We began on the main floor, where daylight filtered through the large front windows and the faint scent of brick dust and old varnish lingered beneath the aroma of pizza and hops. Even in the bustle of business hours, several of us noted subtle but distinct changes in pressure near the rear hallway and kitchen. Small, concentrated drafts seemed to come from nowhere, too isolated and forceful to be explained by HVAC alone. In the dining area, one team member noted a brief tingling sensation along the back of the neck as if being watched, followed by the soft sound of movement in the direction of the basement stairwell.

The basement immediately lived up to its reputation. Narrow, dimly lit, and heavy with still air, it felt disconnected from the activity above. EMF baselines fluctuated slightly near the older stone walls and along a low beam near the back corner. A sudden, sharp cold spot lingered briefly beside a utility door before dissipating. Despite no obvious mechanical cause, the temperature drop was confined to a small radius. Several witnesses later described an impression of motion, something passing behind them just out of view.
The second floor presented a different kind of energy: quieter but charged, as though the building itself was listening. Near the front threshold and the small nook along the same wall, the air grew noticeably dense. A tightening in the chest accompanied this shift, and both sensations intensified as we approached the windowed corner. The space seemed to hum faintly, as if holding residual energy. It was here that a faint female voice, unheard in real time, was later discovered during audio review, suggesting possible intelligent communication attempting to bridge the silence.
On the third floor, in the attic, that sense of awareness sharpened. The air was dry and unmoving, yet the same investigator who experienced discomfort below felt a light brushing sensation along the ear and temple, consistent with contact or proximity. The attic’s front nook, mirroring the one below, exhibited a heavy and almost expectant stillness. Reviewing photographs from this area later revealed what appeared to be distinct figures within the middle windowpane: a tall man in a hat, a woman to one side, and a smaller childlike face between them. Combined with the former owner’s account of a shadow moving across this same window, the connection between reported activity and visual evidence was difficult to ignore.

Overall, the walkthrough confirmed the building’s strong potential for both residual and intelligent phenomena. Certain spaces just as the basement, the second-floor front nook, and the attic window all seem to act as energetic conduits, holding patterns of emotion or presence that repeat and respond. Whether these energies stem from the building’s long history as a social hub or from more personal, unresolved stories attached to its walls remains to be seen.
As we prepared for our full investigation, these early impressions provided us with a roadmap for focused observation and experimentation. The energy shift will serve as key points for EVP sessions, EMF sweeps, and environmental monitoring. Whatever lingers within Caliente Pizza & Draft House seemed to be keenly aware of being noticed, and appeared to finally be ready to speak.
Photos:
- While there was nothing abnormal captured during these videos, we wanted to attach the original walkthrough image that captured the figures in the second floor seating area peering through the center window.

Recording 1 – Walkthrough:
- During this walkthrough, the pair of sensitive and medium could be heard describing their sensations all throughout the building. This began with the feeling of being touched in the Attic by the printer and window. Here, they felt as though there was a man who wanted peace and quiet and we were imposing on that by being here.
- As they moved downstairs into the second floor dining area, they sensed a woman following them and felt as though she had a name which started with a ‘T’ as if her name was ‘Terry’ or ‘Tina.’
- While in this area they sensed a woman, likely this same woman who followed them, was beaten back by the staircase while they each felt a strong pain in their left sides. The woman seemingly eventually gave up her fight although she led them downstairs further onto the first floor.
- Here, the sense was so strong that this woman was beat into a fetal position forcing the medium into this same position led by the woman. During this time, they sensed that she was around 35-36 years old.
- While they were led into the basement by this woman, they felt touches here as well as multiple presences of more women. These women seemed to stay away though as if frightened by another entity here, a man who seemed to lurk around the corners of the hallway.
Recording 2 – Original Walkthrough Clip:
- Since the original walkthrough whispering was so incredible, we wanted to once again include it here, mainly for posterity and comparisons to later whispers.
Video 1 – Walkthrough 1:
- These walkthrough videos give you a good idea of the building and space, as well as give us an opportunity to look back and compare these locations to oddities that occurred throughout the evening. If you listen to our medium, Sabrina, she really portrays the energy and emotion she felt emanating from this space, particularly from this woman she felt, to the extreme extent of her actually being forced to the ground with an overpowering emotion and shared energy.
- This first video mainly captures the second floor and the third floor attic.
Video 2 – Walkthrough 2:
- The walkthrough video here focuses on the main, first floor and the basement. This is the time, on the first floor, that Sabrina was seemingly forced to the floor with the overpowering energy, mentioned above..
2nd Floor Dining Area
Once part of what was believed to be the original bedrooms of the early 1900s home, the second floor has since been transformed into an active dining area during Caliente Pizza & Draft House’s restaurant years. The space stretches across the upper level, with tables and booths lining both sides of the open floor and a small front nook overlooking West Steuben Street. Despite its modern use, the structure’s age still speaks through the creak of the floorboards and the uneven hum of energy that seems to shift from one corner to another.

Accounts tied to this area have centered primarily around the front nook, where staff and visitors have reported seeing shadows move past the windows after hours. During our initial walkthrough, the team immediately felt a strong presence in this area and, upon review, captured what appeared to be human-like figures in the window reflections. The activity here has long been subtle but consistent with fleeting movement, the sense of being watched, and an atmosphere that seems to thicken as night falls.
Our investigation began in this room, where both the rempod and cat ball triggered repeatedly in the front nook area, often in response to our direct questioning. As we moved across the room, our medium was drawn to the opposite side near the staircase, where she sensed the imprint of a woman’s violent encounter, an image of someone who had been brutally beaten by a man. EMF meters began spiking across the sprawling room, and the Ovilus produced fragmented but emotionally charged words with words like “Son” and “Master, yes,” and “even “Secrets.”. A heavy breath audibly heard during the review but not in the moment unfortunately. This was followed by what seemed to be a whisper of the word “Cheat,” as well as the unmistakable sound of footsteps moving across the aged wooden floor. Together, these experiences painted a vivid picture of residual trauma and intelligent interaction, suggesting that this room may hold one of the strongest emotional imprints within the building. There were seemingly at least two separate entities on this floor, although we were unable to pinpoint any particular names or other identifiers.
Photos:
- While our still photography didn’t capture anything out of place, we did set aside some screen captures our trail cameras videoed. We went as far as notating the areas we spotted anomalies with a circle or arrow.
- One of the best captures we received this night was that of a door moving very strange on its own; twice! While we pulled out a still image here to show the distance the door moved, it truly does not do it justice and is much more legible, not to mention incredible, viewed in video.

- Light anomalies were more or less the most common form of unexplained phenomena in this area. While most of the clips we managed to sort through were simply dust particles floating around after someone walks through the area, there are four moments that we cannot explain and seemed to show these strange energies moving away from the corner nook, or toward the staircase, it’s nearly impossible to truly know their reasonings. Each screen capture highlights the strange moving light but, once again, these are much better witnessed via video.

- The cat ball was captured lighting up a few moments, and we pulled a screen shot of one particular moment where we asked these energies to come close to something in order to light it up if they were there in that area; they sure did find a way to muster the energy to show us!

Recorder 1 – EVP 1:
- While the communication here was slow to get started, Sabrina, the medium, has no problem tapping into whatever energies were abundant in this area. She quickly felt as though there was an argument which led to brutality by a man on a woman. Not much was given in the form of details aside from the name of “Thomas” that Sabrina was able to silently produce. The rempod and cat balls began to activate as if the energy had chosen to show itself and make itself known to more than just Sabrina starting with the Rempod in this clip at :08 just after Sabrina was given some detail of this man, picturing him as tall and heavy set.
- The Ovilus then produced the word ‘Son’ at :14 followed by the Rempod once again activating at :20.
Recorder 2 – EVP 2:
- As Sabrina felt a severe pressure on her stomach, seemingly a shared experience with this woman, the Rempod was alerted at :24 from across the room close to the dining area we considered the nook.
- The Ovilus produced another word of ‘Moss’ at :41.
- Sabrina felt pain on her face, leg, stomach, and back just as she received the sensation of getting her hair pulled following this whirlwind of emotion.
Recorder 3 – EVP 3:
- As Sabrina headed toward the energy, it pulled her downstairs so naturally she followed it. Our group split up, sending an investigator along with her and, as we passed off some equipment, the Ovilus produced ‘Master’ and ‘Yes’ at :25.
Recorder 4 – EVP 4:
- With an investigator and the medium heading downstairs, three investigators were left upstairs to continue prying.
- The first action was to debunk the Spirit Light activity, which was a lot, but we noticed there was a hidden outlet and other power behind it which canceled out all of this activity.
- Our attention turned toward the front dining area, also known as the nook, the Rempod was alerted, at :13, right after we explained how it worked.
- We explained that there are many tools and different ways they can communicate with us and the Rempod lit up as if a response to this, at :48.
- While we attempted to prove or debunk this activity and these previous actions, at 1:02, the Ovilus came back into play producing three words: ‘Secret,’ ‘Scratch,’ and ‘Being.’ While two of the three words could be explained in regards to the woman being beaten by the man with secret and scratch, the final word of being was unexplained.
- Continuing to test out some of the equipment, an investigator walked past the Rempod but seemingly not close enough for it to be alerted. We realized that one must be practically touching in order to operate it. But this tool was activated at 1:12 as if perhaps someone was in that space pushing him out.
Recorder 5 – EVP 5:
- As we discussed potentially moving some of our equipment, we spoke amongst ourselves, specifically regarding slowing down and giving the situation a moment. The Rempod activated at :10, a mere moment following this discussion as if they agreed.
- Following this, the Ovilus then gave us ‘Difference’ and ‘Well’ at :11 just as the Rempod followed that once more at :13.
- Rather than moving anywhere, we discussed staying put instead, asking if the investigator could actually come back into the area and the Rempod once again alerted at :22 which we interpreted as a good thing and that they agreed with this tactic.
- With this comment of staying out of that space still lingering, the Ovilus produced ‘Present’ at :27 as if they were present in this space.
- We questioned if we should stay out there and the Rempod again showed that whey agreed when it lit up once at :30.
Recorder 6 – EVP 6:
- After we asked if they could exit that room and come into this larger space, the Rempod came to life at :09 but with no further movement here, we asked if they could use something instead of that light, to which the Rempod once again lit and sounded at :36.
Recorder 7 – EVP 7:
- As the energy seemed to shift and focus more on the nook rather than the back section of the second floor, there was a heavy breath heard at :02 just as a cat ball lit up.
- We commented on the light it was producing and asked if there was in fact a cat ball up here and the Rempod helped answer that question as it was alerted at :19.
Recorder 8 – EVP 8:
- While we attempted to explain that if they were not going to come forward and speak to us that we would have to move on, but before we were even able to get this thought out, we were cut off by the Rempod alerting at :05.
Recorder 9 – EVP 9:
- Amongst ourselves, we discussed that we felt as though something was definitely in that nook area. As if they were responding to us or validating that our belief was correct, the Rempod turned on in full force at :18.
Recorder 10 – EVP 10 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- There was a very soft whisper heard here after we discussed the Rempod and cat ball being alerted. The first clip was in real time and was very difficult to make out, however, the first enhancement pulled this whisper to the forefront and the final enhancement with twice as much noise clean up allowed us to hear enough to claim there was something unexplained here but not actually make out the verbiage. This was all heard at about :02 of each clip.
Recorder 11 – EVP 11 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- Similar to the previous clip, there was a very whisper heard here. This occurred after we mentioned that there was something in this area and that we heard creaking footsteps (not captured on audio equipment). Unlike the previous clip, in this first real time sample, the whisper was audible, just not clear. The first enhancement allowed us to make out what sounded like “Chat” while the second enhancement furthered this unexplained voice but made us second guess whether this was “Chat” or the name “Chet” or even a command of “Check.” This could be heard around :02 – :03 mark.
Video 1 – Trail Camera 1:
- As soon as the camera activated, the door leading to the Attic could be seen closing.
Video 2 – Trail Camera 2:
- When this camera activated the door could be seen opening on its own, the exact opposite from the previous clip.
Video 3 – Trail Camera 3:
- A bright, white light could be seen moving out of the dining nook area down the hallway toward the trail camera at :04.
Video 4 – Trail Camera 4:
- Toward the bottom of the picture, a bright white light could be seen appearing at :03 then disappearing just as quickly.
- A light appears on the right side of the hallway and moves across it towards the Attic door at :08.
Video 5 – Trail Camera 5:
- At :05, a similar looking light could be seen moving from the Attic door, into the hallway and making a turn down the hallway.
Video 6 – Trail Camera 6:
- A light anomaly appeared at the end of the hall in the dining nook at :07 which approached the camera moving down the hallway..
Video 7 – Trail Camera 7:
- Toward the end of the hallway, the cat ball could be seen lighting up as if it were physically touched at the onset of the video.
Video 8 – Trail Camera 8:
- Immediately at the start of this clip, a white light anomaly could be seen at the bottom of the screen but another light appeared in the center of the hallway at :03.
- At :08, a light could be seen moving down the hallway away from an oncoming investigator as if trying to avoid the group
Video 9 – Trail Camera 9:
- Toward the end of the hallway in the dining nook, a light anomaly can be seen as soon as the video rolls.
- From the right side of the hall, a light could be seen moving toward the nook at :03.
- At :09, the same area produced another light, or perhaps the same light, which moved out of the area toward the camera.
3rd Floor Attic
The attic space of Caliente Pizza & Draft House sits at the very top of the structure, a small but functional area that has served multiple purposes through the building’s lifetime. While its exact original use remains uncertain, it likely acted as a private quarters or storage area during the home’s early years. In more recent decades, the space has been used for restaurant storage and, at times, as a manager’s office, retaining a quiet isolation from the bustle below. The narrow entrance and slanted ceilings give the room an intimate, almost claustrophobic feel that holds onto the residual echoes of its long history.

Stories tied to the attic have often mirrored those of the second floor, particularly within the front nook area, where shadows have been reported moving across the walls and windows. During our initial walkthrough, one investigator felt a sudden tightness in the chest, accompanied by the distinct sensation of a light cobweb brushing his ear, despite there being no cobwebs or insects present. This subtle but immediate contact suggested a reactive energy sensitive to our arrival. Later, upon reviewing our audio recorders, we discovered an unexplained voice captured from within the attic, confirming that our instincts to focus here were not misplaced.
During the active investigation, K2 meters spiked, a flashlight turned on without interaction, and the Ovilus produced several words that hinted at agitation and frustration. The physical sensations of discomfort persisted, with several team members noting heaviness in the chest, a feeling consistent with a heart attack or suffocation. As we began an ESTES Method session inside the nook, we received the name “Jimmy” followed by the sound “O”, which we interpreted as Jimmy (aka James) O’Donnell. The voice soon added emotionally charged statements such as “Hate my aunt” and “Sold,” leading us to believe Jimmy resented the sale of the home by his aunt following his death. Additional phrases of “Killed,” “Spiked,” “Family,” and “Hooked up” all suggested a fragmented but emotional recounting of his story. The session reached a dramatic close when we were told to “Go” (to the) “Basement” where a “Woman” would like to “Talk” to us.” Naturally, we followed the directive, drawn by the sense that the two entities, Jimmy and the unknown woman, might be connected through the property’s deeper history.
Photos:
- While there was no one in the area at this time of night, the camera adjusted itself as if sensing someone was in the room. The video shows this moment better as the refocusing could be clearly witnessed.

- During our walkthrough, we snapped a few images that appeared as though there were pairs of eyes following us from room to room. These were also paired up with comparable images where the eyes do not appear from earlier in the evening.

- While there’s no real way to truly visualize the man up in the Attic, the one we think is named James “Jimmy O” O’Donnell, we utilized AI to attempt to recreate him to the best of our and its’ ability. According to our sensitives and mediums, this truly is a good depiction of him and we only hope that we can do him justice.

Recorder 1 – EVP 1:
- Unlike the second floor, it did not take long for this area to open up to us. There was almost an immediate sensation, felt and discussed by the medium, that there was an older man up here who died from a heart attack and has a particular dislike of men and noise. As this man is discussed, Dan began to feel a strong tingling and the feeling that this man was in the vicinity at that exact moment. While the name Bill and Will were both felt and mentioned, these were not followed up or backed up by anything further.
- As we all got settled in and took our spots, there was a pair of footsteps that could be heard walking up the staircase behind the group.
Recorder 2 – EVP 2:
- Prior to this clip, Dan felt that this man was shorter and wore a grey jacket, almost like a wind breaker. He was hunched over with thinning hair pulled down to his forehead and had a slow but steady walk as if he was utilizing a walker but did not actually use one. This led to a pair of whispers heard at :02 and :07 with a louder knocking noise at :13. The whispers were so intriguing that we actually broke them out separately here so we could loop them and listen to them repeatedly which we’ll consider Recorder 2a – EVP 2a and Recorder 2b – EVP 2b below.
Recorder 2a – EVP 2a (Consisting of 2 Enhancements):
- This is the first whisper we captured and pulled apart separately from the previous recording in order to focus on this without losing any context or timeframe. It is only one second long so no need for a time stamp but we heard what sounded like “Get outta here.”
Recorder 2b – EVP 2b (Consisting of 2 Enhancements):
- This clip was sort of stuck in the middle of the investigators speaking but from what we could tell, it sounded like they said “It’s time.” Again, this was only a second long so there was really no need for any time stamp or guidance.
Recorder 3 – EVP 3 (Including 1 Enhancement):
- As Erin began to sense this man was in his 60’s and had salt and pepper colored hair with grey/blue eyes while wearing a blue shirt over top a grey sweater and tan, wrinkly skin. With this, it seemed as though this man huffed in an aggravated or annoyed tone as he seemed to realize we weren’t leaving any time soon.
- This breath could be heard at :04 and enhanced one time as we attempted to solidify this claim.
Recorder 4 – EVP 4:
- The Ovilus began to come alive here for the first time on this upper floor. Its first production was at :07 with ‘Finish,’ ‘Wrench,’ and ‘Statement.’
- This continued with ‘Especially’ being given to us from the Ovilus at :59, after a long period of silence.
- After we explained that this house was once sold after the owners’ passing, we were given the word ‘Sold’ from the Ovilus as if repeating this possible point of interest or even contention (as we would later find out) at 1:18.
Recorder 5 – ESTES 1:
- With this man seemingly wanting peace and quiet, and did not like intruders, we opted to remain more or less quiet and only send one person into the space by utilizing the ESTES Method where only one investigator sat in his room while listening into the Spirit Box through noise canceling headphones so as to no one else being able to hear this reverberation of the radio stations’ white noise. We use a headphone splitter and record both the room’s recorder as well as the Spirit Box recording. During our review, we combine these in order to hear both sides of the questioning.
- While there wasn’t apparent conversation or communication early on, the Spirit Box did produce some intelligent words that were not picked up in the moment. These may seem (at least they did to us) random or not necessarily important, but they ultimately did tie into some of the communication we heard and information we were given later on in this ESTES session.
- This first communication was one way, only spoken to us with no on-going conversation. These seemed to come in quick succession starting with the name “Kayla” at :10.
- The next word heard through the Spirit Box was “Hated” at :12.
- Finally, the last word in this segment was “Me” heard at :15.
- If you put this entire section together, you get “Kayla hated me.”
Recorder 6 – ESTES 2:
- The next communication could be heard at :18 here with the number “Eighteen” after we asked them to simply pick some random words out. This number sure fit into that random category.
Recorder 7 – ESTES 3:
- After we made introductions around the room, we heard the name “Jim” at :23 as if this energy was stepping forward to introduce himself.
- We then heard “Oh” at :32. Unknown at the time, this seems to be a continuation of his name as we later put together a former owner named James O’Donnell and this “Jim O” could have been a nickname or something he referred to himself as in his past life.
- As a side conversation occurred between the investigators, we heard an almost annoyed reminder of “I’m here” at 1:16 followed by a similar tone question of “Hello?” at 1:19.
- The name “Jimmy” was repeated here, even though it wasn’t heard by the listener at the time, at 1:21.
Recorder 8 – ESTES 4:
- While this clip occurred during the ESTES session, we actually removed the Spirit Box side of things as we believe we captured another whisper through simply the room recorder. During this moment, it sounded as though his name was once again whispered with “Jim” captured out of thin air and after a heart attack was mentioned at :02.
Recorder 9 – ESTES 5:
- We once again mentioned a heart attack, as Dan was feeling the pressure again on his chest, and we heard “Details” at :13.
- Dan mentioned that he felt as though someone was staring at him, making him feel uncomfortable while sharing their pain and seemingly heard a reason for this with “My house” at 1:22, as if saying we weren’t welcome or simply that we were uninvited so he’d make us feel that way.
Recorder 10 – ESTES 6:
- At :33, we heard “Home” after we explained that we didn’t mean any offense or disrespect, that we’re just visiting his area and he wanted to know why he’s making him feel so uncomfortable. This response is as if he didn’t want us in his home and that’s exactly why he’s making him feel that way.
- We asked if he was willing to tell us anything about himself and we heard an intelligent confirmation of “I wanna” at 1:00.
- A moment that we did not hear in person at the time was captured through the recorder via the Spirit Box and it seemed as though they were trying to take control with an odd phrase broken apart but ultimately stating “It’s time for the game.” The first part, “It’s time” was heard at 1:10. “For the” was then recorded at 1:13 with the final piece, “Game,” coming through at 1:15.
- While we did not hear that at the moment, we continued to set a baseline and asked if they would like to simply be candid or for us to ask questions. We heard “I just” at 1:48 as if they were somewhat annoyed.
- As this energy, possibly Jim, tried to set the tone again he asked “Remember me?” at 1:56 as if taking a step back. Although, this was only heard through the recording and not at the time.
Recorder 11 – ESTES 7:
- As we attempted to directly speak to him, we called this energy out by name and asked if he (Jimmy) died in this house to which we astoundingly received a reply of “I” at :42 and “Didn’t” at :48.
- While we were comfortable enough accepting this as an answer, the thought seemed to continue with the word “Want” at :56.
- We asked what he didn’t want, again referring to him by name, and heard “Her” at 1:17 then again at 1:24.
- A single welcoming word of “Hello?” was heard at 1:25 then again at 1:30 but sounded as though they were more annoyed or tried to draw our attention (even though they already had it). It is possible, though, that this was a different energy, perhaps the woman Sabrina felt elsewhere, trying to speak through Jimmy.
- The phrase “Been better” was captured in the recorder and not in person at 1:45, again, this came across as snarky and irritated as if to push through and say “Yeah, I’m here, I’m okay, thanks for asking.”
Recorder 12 – ESTES 8:
- As Dan spoke about a quick image of a baby that he saw, a voice came through telling him bluntly “No” and was heard at :06.
- The next leg of this segment was not heard in person and only through the recording during review but did make sense as if to attempt to redirect him from the image of the baby. Multiple times, a command of “Stop” was heard beginning at :23, continuing to :27, then finally again at :55.
- After another comment was made about envisioning the baby, there was a shrill “What?” heard at 1:00.
- Further comments were made regarding the baby starting with “Save” at 1:11 then “Could not” at 1:19 and finally “Who’s that?” at 1:39 as the group tried to dig into the baby’s potential identity.
Recorder 13 – ESTES 9:
- As the team repeated the past phrases trying to put things together, we said aloud ‘I don’t want her” multiple times. We were told to “Wait” at :07.
- “It was me” was captured at :12 although this phrase was not heard at the moment, as well as “Die for you” which was captured at :15. While we’re unsure what this was in relation to, they could be correcting the repeated phrase that we said over and over.
- We asked if they were still here and we heard a direct response of “I’m here” at :17.
- We focused our attention toward a previous phrase and asked who this ‘her’ was and heard another intelligent response of “Family” at 1:09.
- While we questioned this by repeating their response of ‘family?’ We also made mention of the fact that Dan’s chest had tightened once more. At 1:20 we recorded what sounded like “Broken heart.”
- We were unsure of how some of these things came together, we commented that we didn’t want to repeat the word ‘her’ again to confuse anything but, intelligently, heard this very word repeated at 1:38.
- An odd phrase was heard to end this clip, but was not heard at the time for the listener to repeat. “Charlie boy” was shouted out through the Spirit Box at 1:40 although we have absolutely no idea what this could have been in relation to unless they were some part of their family.
Recorder 14 – ESTES 10:
- We were stuck on the thought of a child and asked if they had a child that they did not want and heard a “No” response” at :04 then a surprised “Wait, what?” at :06 followed by “No” two more times at :10 and :18.
- To add to this, we heard a negative response of “Try again” at :37.
- After changing the question around, we asked if they wanted a boy and heard “Raise” at :59.
- Tying into this, a phrase unheard at the moment, of “Had a boy” was heard at 1:02 followed by a name “Kayla” at 1:05.
Recorder 15 – ESTES 11:
- At :01, we heard the name “Joe” then “Thank you” at :04, both unheard at the time.
- While there was a long moment of science, we explained that it’s okay if they’re done speaking and that we were happy to respect their privacy. We were then told “Basement” at :53 as if this was where we could go if we wanted to leave them alone.
- We did hear a “Thank you” once again at :59 after we discussed respecting them.
Recorder 16 – ESTES 12:
- We started this time frame resetting and asking if they wanted us to go to the basement and heard a response and reasoning of “She’d talk to you” at :16.
- As we attempted to get confirmation of this, we asked if there was a woman in the basement who would want to speak with us and heard “You should get started” at :41 as if to warn us that we don’t have a long time to get down there.
- Once more, we wanted clarification here and asked if they said get started and heard “Near” at 1:01 as if to say they were near the basement.
- We asked for further details and asked where in the basement we should go but instead heard a gruff, almost annoyed voice say “I told you” at 1:18.
Recorder 17 – ESTES 13:
- Once again we asked for a specific location in the basement before we headed down there and were now told to “Just leave me” at :39.
- With that, we began to wrap things up and grab some equipment but there were a few more points of communication heard through the recorder and not at the time starting with an exasperated “Finally” at 1:06 then “Great” at 1:11 both obviously showing that this energy (perhaps still Jimmy) was happy that we were moving on.
- One last phrase heard here was “That’s why” at 1:23 although we’re not entirely sure what this was supposed to mean unless it was the basement energies already entering that area which is why they were trying to get us down there before that occurred.
Recorder 18 – ESTES 14:
- Before moving on, we gave them one final moment to say anything they wanted as we asked them if there was anything at all they wanted to say. At :18, we heard an unsettling “Hate.”
- We couldn’t just leave that end and asked who they hated to which we heard “Aunt” at :23.
- Amongst the group we discussed that maybe that was who took care of him before he died and we heard “Sold” at :35 and again at :40.
- There was a little further odd communication heard in the recorder rather than in person as we captured “Killed” at 1:05 and “Spiked” at 1:14.
- This was added to with a full phrase of “After a hook up” at 1:26. While there’s nothing that fits historically, it is interesting to hear all these types of words spoken together as if to say after a hook up of sorts that someone spiked a drink, enough to ultimately kill them. Keeping in mind, this is all completely unfounded.
- After a brief moment, we asked blatantly if they hated their aunt because she sold the home and heard a clear and concise “Yes” at 1:52.
- Finally, and ultimately leading to us finally closing off, we heard “Out” at 1:57.
Recorder 19 – ESTES 15:
- While the team pulled Derrick out from under sense deprivation, the Spirit Box and recorder continued to run leading to this final section where we captured some further communication, naturally and obviously not heard at the time in the moment.
- Another command, and reiterating their feelings about us and how much time we spent up here, we heard “Go” at :07.
- The word “Family” was captured at :13 followed by “Away” at :16 as if to say his family moved away after his passing.
- We then heard “Live” at :18 followed by another command of “Go” at :33.
- As if to be annoyed and frustrated that we weren’t moving fast enough, we heard “You’re still” at :36 finished off with “Here” at :42.
- Once more, we were told to “Get out” twice at :44 and :52.
- We were finally told, yet again, “I told you” at 1:01, “Time” at 1:03, “To leave” at 1:06.
Video 1 – Trail Camera 1:
- While there were no direct visible oddities, the entire view of the camera blurred and re-focused as if something stepped in the way for it to read an entirely separate entity entering the frame at :07.
Basement
The basement of Caliente Pizza & Draft House is one of the few spaces that still reveals the bones of the original 1900s residence. With its rough stone walls, exposed beams, and concrete floor poured decades later, the atmosphere carries the weight of time. During its early years, the space likely served practical purposes such as coal storage, cold preservation, and utilities for the home, long before becoming the modern storage and freezer area it is today.
Over the years, employees have reported unusual occurrences in this underground space. A disembodied “shh” was once heard echoing down the hallway, while motion sensors have been triggered without visible cause. Sudden gusts of cold air and shadow figures slipping between the corners have left many uneasy, particularly in the narrow front hallway where an unexplained sense of discomfort seems to linger.

Our team divided the basement investigation into two sections: the narrow wraparound corridor and the larger open space toward the rear. From the very beginning, we sensed the presence of a man who seemed to pace these corridors, perhaps a lingering guardian separating us from two women we believed were present deeper in the space. The first area quickly came alive with activity: phantom shuffling footsteps around corners, faint whispers without a source, the pushing of our equipment bag, and even the distinct sensation of being touched.
We transitioned into the open section hoping to communicate with the women we felt nearby. Once again, we experienced soft knocking noises, more whispers, and another unexplained touch. As the minutes passed, taps and low knocks increased in frequency, culminating in a heavy thud and an audible grunt that seemed to emanate from one of our investigators, though he hadn’t moved or spoken. Despite our attempts, we were unable to establish clear communication with the female presences, and the session abruptly ended when loud, running footsteps thundered across the floor above us in the foyer area, drawing our attention back upstairs.
Photos:
- These captured SLS Camera moments show full body figures with the camera capturing pinpoints of their body and connecting these pieces with a line which ultimately produces this stick figure anomaly. As we felt as though a pair of women were present down the hallway, avoiding the man we felt walking the corridors, this camera picked up two separate figures in that area. Unfortunately, we never made contact or had communication with them, but outside of feeling them, we were able to pick them up on this specialized camera.

- While we felt as though we were being watched, it wasn’t until we reviewed our video footage that we noticed there were a pair of eyes watching us. To confirm this, we made sure to double check this area later to ensure it was not a reflection and this spot did not yield anything unexplainable confirming that there was something more to this.

- The man we encountered in the basement was also given the AI treatment as we utilized our sensitives and mediums abilities to create this man who was walking the hallways cutting us off from the pair of women in the basement.

Recorder 1 – EVP 1:
- The Basement corridor is really a large square that encapsulates an entire half of the building footprint in the basement. Down here, we spread out with two investigators in the corner where the hallways connect while one investigator was situated closer to the end of the hallway in order to get a good eye line all around the area.
- As we were told to come down here in hopes of speaking with a woman (or women) we were a little more on edge when the area felt much heavier and negative than we originally expected.
- The communication itself never really occurred here as we simply felt a presence of a man walking the halls almost intimidatingly in order to keep the pair of women who were huddled in the far hallway/room quiet and segregated.
- Instead of any communication, this timeframe began with investigators getting touched with fleeting sensations of being touched and brushed gently, almost unnervingly. After Dan got touched, we heard phantom footsteps shuffling down the hallway away from us at about :03. This seemed to be a distraction technique, which ultimately worked as we attempted to chase this sound.
Recorder 2 – EVP 2 (Includes 1 Enhancement):
- The group continued to hear a low murmur but nothing that seemed to get picked up by any recorders but as we attempted to get them to step forward and actually communicate, we asked if they could make a noise for us.
- Rather than any direct sound, we captured more footsteps here, captured at :03.
- This was followed by a woman’s voice, whispering from a distance at :53 which lasted until about :59.
- While we couldn’t make out what these voices were saying, we did enhance it to hear the voices which could be distinctly heard although we could not make out exactly what they were saying.
Recorder 3 – EVP 3:
- As we attempted to get the thermal camera out (using technology on a phone with an attachment) that phone restarted completely turning completely off.
- While we were not able to get any thermal images at that time, a thud noise could be heard at :01 which was followed by the investigators feeling touched once more.
Recorder 4 – EVP 4:
- Prior to this clip, Dan was given an image of this man who seemed to be encircling us down all halls in the basement. This man was wearing a black trench coat with shoulder length light-black hair which crossed his face on the right side. He was pictured with a stubble-type beard. His pants were a grey hue and he was shown by having a quick pace walking back and forth down here.
- After this was all explained, more voices could be heard echoing from down the hall and seemingly around the corner. Once again, this was not audibly clear but the murmur of the voice could in fact be heard here right at the beginning of this clip lasting for about 10 seconds.
- An unsettling hissing could then be heard here at :27.
- With those two noises, Dan was given even more detail as he felt this man is confined down here and was definitely not the same man from upstairs. He felt as though he was annoyed with our presence here but he could be considered intense with a strong persona and energy.
Recorder 5 – EVP 5:
- As we began to feel uncomfortable and unwanted here, further shuffling could be heard right away in this clip followed by Dan reacting to this only a moment later.
- At about :25, the Ovilus produced the word ‘British’ just after we had discussed him coming across like a Jack the Ripper looking figure.
Recorder 6 – EVP 6 Includes 2 Enhancements):
- We began to notice the creepy area behind the freezer and just joked about it but we then heard voices at :13 then again at :20.
- What’s more, upon an enhancement of this time frame, an agreeing word of “Yeah” could be made out at that first voice occurring at :13.
- Following this clip, Erin made a comment that she spotted a pure black head peer out from the dark room at the opposite end of the basement which is exactly where we felt the pair of women were hiding, or confined to, we’re still unsure on that. With that, naturally, we pursued this.
Recorder 7 – EVP 7:
- After we moved out from the square hallway, we settled into the open space just outside that dark room where we believed the women were located and the exact one Erin saw a figure poke their head out. We found out this was not a large area so this space outside of it would be more comfortable and also give these women, if they were still there, their space.
- The first oddity here occurred as an investigator moved toward the space, the Ovilus produced the word ‘Person’ at :10 obviously an intelligent comment regarding this investigator moving closer to them.
- Dan could be heard reacting to getting physically touched by this energy at about :36.
Recorder 8 – EVP 8 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- A knock could be heard at :09 after we attempted to get them to make a noise for us in order for us to know that they are with us.
- Whispers could be heard at :30, similar to those heard earlier with no clear words but the low murmur. This was further enhanced twice in hopes of making something out but all that was heard with these alterations was a clearer murmur of a voice.
Recorder 9 – EVP 9 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- After some silence and unsure where to go from here, there was a knocking noise heard at :01.
- This was acknowledged at the time by the group when another knocking was heard at :25 and incredibly it sounded as though it came from Dan even though it clearly and definitely was not.
- Only a second later, at :26, there was another whisper heard also sounding as though it came from Dan and we once again enhanced this voice.
Recorder 10 – EVP 10 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- Early on in this clip, at :02, there was another low whisper which we had no choice but to enhance multiple times to attempt to get a clearer perception of this. Once again, though, it appeared to come from Dan.
- At :43, a strange noise, possibly a deep breath, was then heard on recording but not heard in person.
- Another noise, sounding like a grunt, appeared to come from Dan occurred at :49.
- To note, we have no idea why these noises were coming from Dan or why he was being pinpointed for any reason whatsoever.
Recorder 11 – EVP 11 (Including 1 Enhancement):
- As our time wore thin here, we were drawn upstairs to the first floor by whispering, which was not captured via recordings, and footsteps coming from up above us which was heard at :01 and again at :08. With the enhancements, the voices were more predominant but still not much clearer.
Video 1 – Handheld Camera 1:
- While we were situated in the hallway, peering down toward an open area where we felt we heard a pair of women whispering, we trained our SLS camera in this direction. Toward the left side of the open space, a figure could be seen standing in the corner.
Video 2 – Handheld Camera 2:
- In this same location, later on in our session here, toward the right side of the space, a secondary figure could be spotted standing in a similar stance.
1st Floor Dining Area
Situated at the front of the building, this space likely served as a sitting or dining room during the home’s earliest days, though its exact original purpose remains unclear. In its current form, it functions as both the restaurant’s entry point and a bustling dining area. The architecture here still carries the bones of the old house, arched thresholds and layered walls that once marked the boundary between private and public life, making it an ideal crossroads for energy to linger.

Stories surrounding this section of the building are among the oldest and most well-known. The infamous handprint above the kitchen doorway is a piece of enduring local lore, said to reappear time and again even after being painted over. Shadows have been reported sweeping across the walls and through the front entryway, one even captured in a photo by the owner long after the restaurant had closed for the night, when he was the only one left inside. These recurring manifestations suggest that something, or someone, remains closely tied to this portion of the building.
When we arrived upstairs after hearing the loud thumps and running sounds from the basement, the activity had abruptly ceased. What replaced it, however, was a powerful draining sensation that spread through both our equipment and ourselves. The Ovilus, an instrument that had never before failed us, lost power completely, along with our cameras, phones, and lights. Even as our energy faded, K2 meters registered intermittent spikes, and a whispering voice was captured faintly on audio. Despite these subtle signs, no further communication occurred. It was as though whatever had drawn us here had finally decided to end the night on its own terms, signaling that our time in the building had come to a close.
Photos:
- There was nothing out of the ordinary captured visually during our time here.
Recorder 1 – EVP 1 (Including 1 Enhancement):
- After the group split from the second floor dining area, Erin and Sabrina headed down to the first floor to continue following the woman and her energy which was pulling them down here to the first floor dining area.
- As she made it down to this area, Sabrina immediately felt a touch which led into a much harder physical push. Pressure built up around the back of her head moving toward her ear leading her to believe this woman she connected with was the recipient of some type of head injury, just as she said this, she felt an immediate pain in her head as if she was just forcefully hit here.
- The overwhelming sensation of wanting to be on the floor made Sabrina feel as though the woman was laying in a fertile position as she was brutally kicked in this area.
- As she reenacted the positioning, there was a whispering captured and heard here at :12. This was mainly unintelligible and perhaps just a cry out of agony from this unnamed woman. This was enhanced twice to try to clean this up, if even ever so slightly.
- Following this, Sabrina did feel as though the woman did not die, but came close. She did feel touched again as she said this aloud.
- As the pair made their way back up the staircase, the pressure stopped and Sabrina’s ultimate conclusion to this scenario is that the man is trying to stop the woman from telling anyone what happened to her at his hands.
- Right before the two women reconnected with the group on the second floor, there was a sudden sensation as if she was being rushed from below leading to a seeming severance of the energy.
Recorder 2 – EVP 2 (Including 2 Enhancements):
- While there was not much happening during our time here, the energy clearly shifted and truly drained us of our energy, not to mention our tools began to lose battery life.
- After we called it quits due to sheer exhaustion, we began to clean up but let the recorder run. Luckily, we did so, as we heard yet another whisper at :07. Upon a closer listen, it sounded as though we were told to “Leave” which ultimately ended our night.
Our investigation of Caliente Pizza & Draft House revealed not just fleeting moments of activity, but a series of sustained interactions suggesting that multiple presences remain strongly connected to the building. What began as subtle indications like rempods and cat balls activating, EMF spikes, soft whispers, and shadows glimpsed in the windows all progressed into more defined interactions and direct communication, including identifiable voices, physical sensations, and pronounced emotional imprints across several areas of the property.
Early on, it became apparent that the second-floor dining space and attic were key focal points of activity. The front nook on the second floor consistently drew responses from our devices, while the medium sensed a woman who had suffered violent trauma elsewhere in the room. In the attic, strong sensations, including physical pressure, K2 meter spikes, and Ovilus communication, led to the identification of Jimmy O’Donnell, who expressed frustration about the property being sold by his aunt, along with fragmented statements tied to his past. Attempts to connect with female presences in the basement yielded additional phantom touches, whispers, and unexplained knocks, though direct communication with them was ultimately not achieved. The foyer/waiting area produced an overwhelming drain of both energy and equipment, including devices and cell phones losing power simultaneously, a phenomenon we have never encountered before of this magnitude. Whispering and K2 meter activity were captured, but no further open communication occurred, effectively signaling the end of our night.

It became clear that these entities are not simply residual echoes of the past. Whether it was Jimmy expressing his frustration, the woman’s trauma on the second floor, or the lingering shadows throughout the property, the activity suggested intentional presence and emotional awareness. These interactions were often subtle, yet unmistakable, giving the impression that the building itself continues to house stories and experiences that are deeply rooted in its history and still resonate with the present.
While we did not achieve direct contact with every presence, the patterns of activity across multiple floors, devices, and investigators provided compelling evidence of both intelligent and residual energies. Moments of quiet were as telling as moments of activity, highlighting the deliberate nature of the interactions we observed. The property’s history as a homestead, tavern, and restaurant creates layers of memory and imprint, each contributing to the ongoing energy we documented.
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Max, the manager of Caliente Pizza & Draft House, for his cooperation, hospitality, and trust in allowing us to spend the night exploring the property. Special thanks also go to John from the YaJagoff! Podcast for joining us during the investigation, as well as Sabrina for her contributions in mediumship. Additional gratitude goes to Nick and the rest of our team for their dedication and professionalism, which allowed us to navigate and document the property safely and thoroughly.

The Caliente Pizza & Draft House, with its century-long history, welcomed us in a quiet and mysterious way. From shadow figures to physical interactions and unexplained auditory phenomena, the building offered glimpses into lives and events that remain intertwined with its walls. We are humbled by the experience and grateful for the opportunity to witness and document these lingering presences, preserving both their stories and the enigmatic energy that continues to define this unique space.

Just finished reading this investigation write-up and it’s honestly fascinating. Caliente Pizza + Draft House is the last place I expected to have this kind of activity, but the evidence these guys captured is wild. The history mixed with the personal experiences makes it a really compelling read.
If you’re into local hauntings or just weird unexplained stuff, this one’s worth checking out.
